Balochistan’s caretaker Information Minister, Jan Achakzai, has announced that internet services will be suspended in specific locations during the elections on February 8, 2024.
This decision aims to ensure safety and security during the electoral process. The government is concerned that individuals with malicious intentions might exploit the internet to disrupt the elections. The affected areas include Turbat, Mach, Chaman, and other significant locations in Balochistan.
The primary focus of the government is the protection of citizens. Concerns have arisen due to reports of potential security threats, including the presence of a suspected female suicide bomber.
However, there will be no interruption of internet services in other parts of the country. Pakistan’s caretaker Information Minister, Murtaza Solangi, has confirmed that internet and mobile services will continue uninterrupted nationwide on Election Day. Local authorities will address any issues that may arise during the voting process.
Solangi encourages all citizens to exercise their voting rights responsibly, emphasizing the importance of participating in the democratic process.
Despite security concerns, both provincial and national authorities affirm that the elections will proceed as scheduled on February 8th
